Partner Relationship as a Trigger for Investing into One’s Spiritual Growth
The dynamics of partner relationships is an intriguing and complex topic. I often encounter dissatisfaction between partners who can clearly point out everything that is not working for them in the relationship. Sometimes a person is so disappointed, that they want their partner to change completely because they see this as a solution which would enable them to stay together. This is the first thing that requires awareness and decontamination, as we cannot change others, nor influence their change. Change is only possible within us. It is only when we have found the courage to face what needs healing inside of us, that we make it possible for our reality to change, too, under a positive influence of the Law of Attraction. Thus, when we have mastered our own lessons, this has an immediate impact on our surroundings, and the same goes for partner relationships.
There are many ways to work on enhancing the relationship with our partner. An interesting way which can lead to an ’a-ha’ moment is analysing which parent each partner in the relationship reminds us of. In most cases, we feel attracted to partners who carry a package of personality traits which can be found in one of our parents. Parental imprint is the first partner relationship we encounter as children and therefore it becomes a model for our choice of partners in life.
A deeper analysis reveals which themes we need to cover in order to resolve the relationship patterns we formed while growing up with our parents. Our wounded inner child usually reacts in the situations here and now which are imbued with energy similar to that experienced in our early childhood, in relations with parents or other close authority figures. When partners, already affected by deleterious effects of everyday stress, feel overwhelmed with fatigue and frustration at having to deal with their unresolved issues, or the needs of their own children or other people, our old dysfunctional reactions learnt in childhood often take the helm. Those were the mechanisms we used to fight for our rights: to be important and valued, to be heard and acknowledged, to get love and understanding.
A shift occurs in the therapeutic process. A disharmonious partner relationship serves as a trigger to start therapy and then it naturally takes us to the territory of unconscious and unhealed contents. Sometimes, an unconscious block prevails, preventing us from embarking on self-work – so as not to get separated spiritually from the partner too much. This mostly comes from the ego fearing the possibility of separation. Sometimes, this proves to be an excellent opportunity to get one’s partner started on the exciting path of change and spiritual growth, often becoming a vehicle for mutual spiritual awakening through their united efforts, with an effect very much like that of communicating vessels. There is nothing more beautiful than experiencing the synchronicity of partners’ growth and development, accompanied with mutual support, understanding and love.
Such a decision might be perceived as a huge expenditure and a burden to the family budget. However, observed from a metaperspective, it is actually an investment that works on many levels: healing one’s inner child, raising one’s level of consciousness, and mastering the skills which will come in handy in different relationships. Moreover, if we go a step further, the process of self-work enables the person to transcend the perception of oneself as being no more than a personality in a physical body, setting the person free for the miraculous creation of a life befitting the fullest extent of their soul’s expression. The person is then ready to perceive their highest divine identity – that of a soul in a physical body, and to let themselves be guided through the course of life by their Higher Self in an enlightened way up to the point of reaching Enlightened Mastery. Anchored in our mastery, we live our lives in complete energy alignment with our divine potential, talents and gifts.
It is of no great significance what the topic bothering us is, as this is just a trigger, prompting us to enter the process of self-work. The important thing is whether we have the necessary awareness to become conscious of our true identity. What truly matters is whether we want to invest time and money in ourselves, to reach true love for ourselves and for others, and consequently for the miracle of life itself, as the pinnacle of divine creation.
